How to Make a Deep Pan Pizza at Home?
Being a huge fan
of Deep pan pizza in Karachi, I craved it again and again, but I could spend all my
money on a pizza. So, I searched a few of the recipes and then had a perfect
recipe for a deep pan pizza that elevates my mood every time I eat it. Now,
every weekend I make it at home and enjoy munching it.
Recipe Guide for a
Deep Pan Pizza
Ingredients:
- 500g strong white bread flour
- 7g sachet of fast-action dried
yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp caster sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 300ml warm water
- Tomato sauce (homemade or
store-bought)
- Toppings of your choice
(cheese, vegetables, meat, sausages)
Instructions:
- In a large glass mixing bowl,
combine the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and olive oil. Mix well.
- Gradually add the warm water to
the mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured
surface for 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly
oiled bowl, cover with a clean tea towel and leave to rise for 1-2 hours
until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Roll out the dough on a floured
surface to fit your deep pan pizza tin.
- Place the dough into the tin,
making sure it is pressed firmly into the corners and up the sides.
- Spread the tomato sauce over
the dough and add your chosen toppings.
- Bake in the preheated oven for
25-30 minutes or until the pizza is cooked and the cheese is melted and
bubbling.
- Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and then serve.
Homemade Tomato Sauce
recipe for a Deep Pan Pizza
Ingredients:
- 1 can (28 oz) of whole peeled
tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions:
- Drain the canned tomatoes and
reserve the liquid. Crush the tomatoes with your hands or with a fork,
leaving some chunks for texture.
- Heat the olive oil in a
saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes
translucent, occasionally stirring (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add the minced garlic and cook
for 1-2 more minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the crushed tomatoes,
reserved liquid, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red
pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and
reduce the heat to low. Cook the sauce for 20-30 minutes, occasionally
stirring until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the
seasoning as needed.
- If you prefer a smooth sauce,
you can blend it with an immersion blender or transfer it to a blender and
blend until smooth.
- Serve the tomato sauce over
pasta or use it as a base for other recipes.
